about uwin

The Urban Wildlife Information Network began in 2012 as an urban biodiversity study by the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. The initiative has since grown to include over 20 partner cities across North America and beyond. The international database generated by the network is cloud-based and supported by community science efforts, and provides large-scale data to scientists and institutions for use in research and education. UWIN aims to increase understanding of urban ecology and biodiversity in order to support wildlife management and sustainable urban planning, promoting human-wildlife coexistence in cities.

Along with urban wildlife research, UWIN focuses on community science, education, and outreach initiatives that increase public awareness and connection to urban wildlife.

Through the establishment of the St. Louis Wildlife Project, St. Louis joined the Urban Wildlife Information Network as a partner city in 2018.
